Peeping Tom

A man with a semi-hidden camera under his coat comes up to a woman sheltering against a shop window. She is a prostitute and asks him for two pounds for her services. Without saying another word they go off, and we go with them, to a flat where she reluctantly starts to take her clothes off whilst we look on. He also seems to show his hand, or so we might assume from the horrified look on the woman's face as she sees what's in store for her. Because the man who is going to be her last ever customer is looking for a different type of thrill than all the others. A full frontal exposure with eyes wide open starts off a work with which Michael Powell had the critics up in arms at the time. An exploration of voyeurism, violence and cinema itself turned into a cult film that makes us accomplices of the manic disorder seen in an imbalanced Mark Lewis (Karlheinz Böhm).
