| Following the intensity of Repulsion and Cul-de-sac, Polish moviemaker Roman Polanski took time out to direct this amusing, delirious comedy about vampires mixing humour and horror in which he reserves for himself one of the starring parts. This is Polanski’s jump to the USA, in which he plays Professor Abronsius’ Assistant, Alfred, going with his boss on an expedition to Transylvania in search of vampires. And of course they find them. And they dance and Sharon Tate bathes repeatedly and the wolves howl and blood runs through the snow and the fangs come to light and everyone has a ball to themselves. |
