El péndulo de la muerte
(The Pit and the Pendulum, 1961). Roger Corman. Estados Unidos, 80 min.
A meeting between three of the genre’s big names. Roger Corman directs Vincent Price and Barbara Steele in this new adaptation of a work by Edgar Allan Poe. On this occasion, Corman takes one of the American author’s most famous stories, The Pit and the Pendulum (original title of the film, subsequently changed by a smart Spanish distributor convinced that he’d attract bigger audiences by advertising death than he would with Poe’s title). The movie takes place in Spain, in the mansion of the son of the most terrible torturer of the Inquisition. Obviously Vincent Price plays the evil Nicholas Medina, in one of the works that turned him into a legend, on this occasion accompanied, for the first and only time, by Italian horror heroine, Barbara Steele. The script is signed yet again by Richard Matheson.
