| Two
years prior to Jason Voorhees making his appearance and six before Freddy
Krueger started to frequent teenage nightmares the world over, Michael
Myres made his first appearance under the orders of John Carpenter and
with the invaluable collaboration of Jamie Lee Curtis and Donald Pleasence.
This film by the New York moviemaker, operating on a shoestring budget,
was to become one of the biggest independent movie box office hits in
history, a reference for all subsequent genre cinema, and the first in
a saga continuing until our days (last year saw the release of Halloween:
Resurrection, final instalment to date). With an unforgettable
score, work as almost always of Carpenter himself, Halloween
is very definitely one of contemporary horror movies’ greatest classics. |
