Hércules y la reina de Lidia
(Ercole e la regina di Lidia, 1959). Pietro Francisci. Francia-Italia. 105 minutos
Bodybuilding American actor Steve Reeves (whom over his career played Sandokan, Aeneas, Romulus and even Phillipides) once again embodies Hercules, the mythological Greek hero, in this second part of the 1957 film, Hercules. The movie, directed by Pietro Francisci (again) with photography by Mario Bava (as in the previous title), uses texts by Sophocles and Aeschylus to narrate the attempts of Hercules, accompanied by his wife and the young Ulysses, to prevent a war for control of Tebas between Oedipus’ two sons. During one of his journeys he ends up in the arms of the dangerous Queen of Lydia (Silvia López), who orders that all of his past lovers be murdered. The amnesiac Hercules lives several days of intense idyll with the Queen.
