Supersonic Man
(1979). Juan Piquer Simón. España. 94 minutos
Supersonic Man arrives from outer space to save humanity from its destruction by the evil Doctor Gulic, played by Cameron Mitchell. The Valencian Juan Piquer Simón, always faithful to fantasy (from Journey to the Centre of the Earth until Manoa, la ciudad de oro), directs one of the most famous and legendary movies on his filmography. Responsible for tremendously important titles in the genre in Spain, like Slugs: the Movie, The Rift or Mil gritos tiene la noche Simón has the collaboration on this occasion of Juan Mariné on the photography and the special effects of Emilio Ruiz, to whom this year’s Festival is dedicating an exhibition. The unmistakable music of the seventies accompanies the actions of the superhero in this film which was a huge hit on its release.
