The Shine
(2003). David Uloth. Canadá. 2 minutos
Redrum, redrum. The part of movie crimes forgotten by almost all directors and on the subject of which numerous respectable people ask themselves when watching a movie in which a murder takes place, for instance in a bathroom. Who cleans the bath? This is a part of the story which is kept secret from the audience or to which very little time is dedicated (with very honourable exceptions, such as the Wolf’s work in Pulp Fiction). David Uloth converts this forgotten time into the centre of his short movie The Shine. While true that he barely gives it two minutes, that’s the whole length of this heartfelt tribute to those responsible for the “dirty work” of the crime world, to cleaning products (whether they be called Hertex or Mr. Proper) and to The Shining.
