Barbarella

A real classic in European sci-fi pics from the 80s, a period when comics throughout the Old Continent started featuring a whole bunch of fantastic, splendiferous heroines dedicated to saving the world decked out in skin-tight plastic outfits designed by... Paco Rabanne, for example. Jane Fonda became Barbarella for the big-screen debut of Jean-Claude Forest’s comic, first published in V Magazine in 1962, apparently inspired by the sexiest lady around at that moment, Brigitte Bardot, first wife of Vadim, who, by the time the comic had been adapted for the movies, was already remarried, to Jane, then star of the movie and protagonist of some of the most unforgettable moments in this amusing, delirious and tongue-in-cheek satire about an intergalactic heroine from the year 40,000 who applies love as the essence of her efforts to spread peace throughout the galaxy.
