Marc (Sam Neill) is reunited with his wife and son on his return from a trip to Berlin. Their welcome is not what he expected. Anna (disturbingly portrayed by Isabelle Adjani) is not the same anymore. They argue and she ends up walking out of their home, leaving behind her broken husband who just cannot understand his wife's strange behaviour. And so he pays a private eye to follow Anna who discovers that she is holed up in an apartment hiding a sinister mystery between its walls.... Worrying, overwhelming, sick or extremist are just some of the adjectives used to describe a work compared (or in line with) one of David Cronenberg's most applauded films, The Brood (1979), or more recently with Antichrist (2009), by Lars von Trier. 30 years later, Zulawski's controversial nightmare continues to bring up more questions than answers.
