Six directors were given the same budget to shoot six short stories that would then fit together into a film contained in one of those unhealthy cinemas inhabited by dolls that haven't needed a puppet-master for a while to be able to Six stories, six authors. Including the prodigious master of special effects Tom Savini. Also including the extreme Douglas Buck, author of the terrifying trilogy Family Portraits that here seems to take on Malick's way of doing things. And all six, in magnificent company. The episode Mother of Toads stars Fulci's muse, Catriona McColl, and two of the secret stories contain music by Simon Boswell, the composer from Shallow Grave, Phenomena or The Sleeping Dictionary.
