USA, 2011
Kevin Smith from Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma and Zack and Miri Make a Porno sets up a highly bizarre political satire in this film (to quote Time Out) that according to The Guardian is his best film so far and has made a fair few Jesus freaks get down and pray uncontrollably before the (very few) movie theatres where it has been shown in the United States. Teenagers who are even more horny than the stars of American Pie are attracted over the Internet to a supposedly tasty, presumably sexual encounter only to see themselves wrapped up, like propitiatory victims, in the fundamentalist crusade by a group of fanatical Christians led by an impressive Michael Parks who will do battle, remembering Waco, with a no less impressive John Goodman. The film exudes that old and (not particularly) comfortable style of southern gothic tales.
