It was unveiled to the galaxy at Cannes and more than one critic wrote that it sometimes had the disturbing but beautiful atmosphere of Tourneur’s I Walked with a Zombie (1943) combined with Carpenter’s delicious shamelessness. It premiered in the Côte d'Azur and many recalled almost all of the nightmares on Elm Street... And that was after they recovered from the start of the film, a magnificent panoramic view of almost 360 degrees, where the camera follows a girl wandering in the night and the spectator feels that “something” (not someone) is following her. Played by one of the most interesting it girl of the moment, that Maika Monroe we can also see in The Guest, the whole thing kicks off when she and her boyfriend make love and he confesses to having slipped “something” into her body. Something that may well kill her...
