Kevin Smith, that boy of ours from Clerks (1994) and Zack and Miri Make a Porno (2008), the one who offered his services to Spielberg for ideas on how to make a sequel to Jaws (1975), has decided to shoot a trilogy based on Canadian legends. He has Johnny Depp, but his first irresistible desire is to bring out before All Saints Day this crazy fable about a journalist, a scientist sick of everything, a walrus and a hybrid (more, less) of this Odobenus Rosmarus and a homo, let’s say sapiens. With a very well-constructed screenplay, ambitious dialogues and that little beat of horror comedy with possibilities, remember that it’s also shot in Winnipeg, Guy Maddin’s infernal paradise, the perfect setting for someone to suggest that you live with them without paying anything... in exchange for listening to his tales as a lone sailor.
