Journey to the Centre of Subterfuge

A view to the history of the record label

Journey to the Centre of Subterfuge
Okendo C. C.
25 October – 5 December

Over the last 25 years, Subterfuge has helped carve out a niche for the independent Spanish music scene. This journey came off the pages of a fanzine around 1989 and has ended up a benchmark for several generations who have been able to enjoy music from bands such as Australian Blonde, Dover, Sexy Sadie, Marlango, Killer Barbies, Anni B Sweet, Arizona Baby or Joe La Reina and other top names from a particular label that has also published comics, produced short films and documentaries like Monopatín.

Journey to the Centre of Subterfuge is a trip through the history of a pioneering company. Through this exhibition compiling a broad selection of graphic material (posters, memorabilia, singular objects...), it lays claim to a particular way of understanding independence and freedom.

This is a joint birthday celebration and a new collaboration between the Festival and Subterfuge that has actively participated in the festival since 1997 by setting up fanzine meets, organising concerts with the label's artists such as Fangoria, Los Fresones Rebeldes, Mastretta and Undershakers, with exhibitions such as Dentro de la bola in 2003 or the one dedicated to Miguel Ángel Martín in 2000 and publishing compilation disks for the Festival.
