“Shrew's Nest” to open the Horror and Fantasy Film Festival on October 25

Shrew's Nest

On Saturday October 25, the Teatro Principal will hold open the 25th San Sebastián Horror and Fantasy Film Festival by screening Shrew's Nest (2014), a Spanish film directed by Juanfer Andrés and Esteban Roel and produced by Álex de la Iglesia and Carolina Bang through Pokeepsie Films.

Set in 1950s Spain. Montse (Macarena Gómez) has given up her youth to looking after her little sister, imprisoned in a sinister flat in the centre of Madrid. Her mother died giving birth to the little girl (Nadia de Santiago) and her father (Luis Tosar) could not take it and left. Forced to act as father, mother and older sister, Montse hides away from life in her flat, feeding an obsessive and unbalanced temperament: she suffers agoraphobia and cannot set foot outside her home. One day, a young neighbour (Hugo Silva) appears in their lives.

Juanfer Andrés was born in Albacete and has worked in the world of advertising and directed music videos. Esteban Roel (Monterrey, Mexico) has appeared as an actor in different TV productions such as "El comisario" (2002-2007), "Crematory" (2011) or "La fuga" (2012). They directed the short film 036 together in 2011. This is their first feature length film.

A spectacular cast for this claustrophobic and agonising suspense film, the first Pokeepsie Films production, presented last week at the Toronto Film Festival.
