Shin Godzilla

Saturday 29 October will herald the opening of the 27th San Sebastián Horror and Fantasy Film Festival at the Teatro Principal with a showing of Godzilla Resurgence (2016), the new movie starring the mythical character produced by Toho.

In a year when Japan will be one of the stars of the Festival with a cycle and a book dedicated to the country's 21st century fantasy, the new version of one of its cinema classics will open the festival, accompanied in the official selection by new movies from Takashi Miike and Koji Shiraishi among others.

Legendary monster starring in an infinite number of movies (over 30) since its first appearance brought about by Ishiro Honda in Godzilla (1954). Over the decades it has made several appearances in Japanese cinema at different points in time (also starring in two American movies), and Godzilla is now coming back out of its hiding place in this film that opened in Japan last July to roaring success.

The film was directed by Shinji Higuchi –Sinking of Japan (2006), Attack on Titan (2015) (shown at the Festival last year)– and Hideaki Anno, director specialising in animation, responsible for several movies in the Evangelion saga such as Evangelion 1.0 – You Are (Not) Alone (2007) or Evangelion 2.0 – You Can (Not) Advance (2009).

The film will be commercially distributed in Spain by A Contracorriente.
