We already knew the comic. French of divine West Coast influence created by Guillaume Renard, alias Run. We’d met his creatures, Angelino, Vinz, Willy. We’d already walked the streets of his foul but vast concrete jungle, Dark Meat City. We already loved his scooter, his flaming skull, his vital anguish, his unsought messianic fate. It only needed someone to make the movie. And it was the self-same Run and the self-same Ankama publishers who looked for and found the complicity of Shojiro Nishimi, helmer of Batman: Gotham Knight (2008), and of the production company STUDIO 4ºC. The result is a fascinating mixture of hip hop, putrefaction, supernatural sci-fi, freestyle wrestling, existential despondency and the electronics of DJ Toxic Avenger.
