Here too we have a mother and her two daughters, harrassed, in their case for years, by a couple of… murderers? One of them looks remarkably similar to the silhouette of Iggy Pop. Here, in the heading, ends all similarity with He’s Out There (2018), because the French guy from Martyrs (2008) follows a very different path to tell us what he wants to tell us; a path of reality/dream/nightmare on which we even see the self-same Lovecraft appear. Cooking elegance and sadism to perfection, he has been accused of the worst, of enjoying himself with unspeakable crimes committed against women. In fact, here we have a pure-breed slasher who embraces the inexplicable and where Annabelle the cursed doll would be all too happy.
