Jury

BEST SHORT FILM

Stray (2018). Dead W. Law. Australia

The members of the International Short Film Competition Jury at the 30th San Sebastian Horror and Fantasy Film Festival, Itziar Castro, Fernando Iwasaki and Elisa McCausland, have unanimously decided to grant the Jury Prize for Best Short Film to Stray for its impeccable making and above all for the originality of a screenplay which skilfully handles binary allegories prompting reflections on gender, the body and animal instincts, in a context of estrangement and uprooting which engages in dialogue with the problems of today. In addition, the jury wishes to highlight the extraordinary performance of the actress Melinda Joan Reed.

The jury wishes to draw attention with a special mention to the short film The Burden / Het Juk (Nico van den Brink; the Netherlands, 2019) for the roundness of its storyline, due to being a screenplay which, without renouncing its original nature, is also an extraordinary compendium of all of the classic horror genre elements.

A special mention goes to The Boogeywoman (Erica Scoggins; USA, 2019), where we see an exploration and surmounting of the monstrous archetype magnetically embodied by the new actress Amélie Hoeferle.
