BEST SHORT FILM

Migrations (2020). Jerome Peters. Belgium

The Jury of the 31st San Sebastian Horror and Fantasy Film Festival's International Short Film Competition, made up of Caye Casas, Desirée de Fez and Valeria Vegas, has unanimously decided to give the Jury Prize for Best Short Film to Migrations for its originality, for the clever way it combines different genres (science fiction, comedy of manners and horror), for its particular sense of humour and for the self-confidence with which it fires off a critical message. We especially wish to highlight the performance of its magnificent ensemble cast.

A mention goes to Nightingale (Jasper de Bruin; The Netherlands, 2020). For the originality with which it addresses the subject of vampirism, for being strangely beautiful in spite of the harshness of its images and for its skilful combination of horror and melodrama.

"SILVER MÉLIÈS" AWARD TO THE BEST EUROPEAN FANTASTIC SHORT FILM

A Stranger from the Past (2020). Jan Verdijk. The Netherlands

For the ability of its director to tell a complicated story in only five minutes and using impacting images and for the irresistible design both of the horror atmosphere and of the monster.

Young Jury Award to the Best Short Film

The Familiars (2020). Millicent Malcolm. Australia

Syfy Award to the Best Spanish Short Film

Abracitos (2020). Tony Morales

“We believe that it encompasses the best key aspects in this genre; it maintains the suspense and also has a fantastic story behind it. It is a short film that prompts the spectator to imagine a longer story than they have actually seen. With a dark atmosphere that keeps you on the edge of your seat at all times, this tale of two sisters hiding under the sheets to avoid the horror is the SYFY proposal for the San Sebastian Horror and Fantasy Film Festival”.

Blogos de Oro Award to the Best Feature Film

Come True (2020). Anthony Scott Burns. Canada

The jury of the Blogos de Oro critics at the 31st San Sebastian Horror and Fantasy Film Festival, made up of the members Jon Paul Arroyo (BangBang Zinema), Mikel Peña (Ravenheart), Manuel Aguilar (CineDePatio), Jon Ruiz (ATxiflar) and Marta Hernáez (guest jury member) have decide to award Come True for its unusual proposal of a disturbing voyage to the dark side of dreams, its nightmare atmosphere and its artistic aesthetic approach.
