Alain and Marie go to see a house on the outskirts of town. The real estate agent tells them there’s something in the basement that will forever change their lives. Fascinated with what they find there, they buy the house and move in. When they invite Alain’s boss and his girlfriend over for dinner, they are tempted to reveal the mystery. But Marie, who visits the basement every day, has decided it’s better to keep it a secret. Quentin Dupieux shows us that, with his two films shot this year –the other one is Smoking Causes Coughing (2022)– he continues to be one of the most original, entertaining and personal makers of the contemporary fantastic genre.
