Benito Freire lives a miserable existence as a peddler in an atmosphere governed by ignorance and superstition. He travels around Galician towns hawking his wares and suffers from severe epileptic seizures. Rumours start to spread through the region that he is a werewolf and that he is possessed by an evil spirit.
