Confirmed: Higuchi and Anno are the directors of 2016's sumptuous Shin Godzilla. Just watching the trailer on IMDB, brimful of nostalgia, you get the blues. Certified: Shin Ultraman is a joyful, breakneck film. Crazy and brilliant, it employs dumb finesse in paying tribute to the world of Tokusatsu (??) to which it belongs; according to Wikipedia, “live action film that makes heavy use of practical special effects". Some have even referred to this delightful reprise of the 1960s TV series as "tacky". But it's such fun to feel like a megakitsch child of the Sixties (we even have the old Ultraman costume...). And of course, if we are going to be scared of anything, then more earthly leaders than the invisible kaiju and my Martian enemy.
