The Jury for the International Short Film Competition at the 34th San Sebastian Horro and Fantasy Film Festival, comprising Marta Medina, Elena Muñoz and Koldo Serra, have decided that the Jury Award for Best Short Film should go to Rodrigue Huart's Transylvanie (2023), in recognition of the sensitivity and humour employed in addressing the issue of bullying, the tastefully elegant staging, photography and music, the freshness of the performances and the overwhelming charisma of the lead actor. Because it is ALL great! Because we have a great director in the making here.
A special mention goes out from the jury to Louise Groult's short film Gertrude et Yvan Party Hard (France, 2022), thanks to its unconventional personality, its twisted sense of humour, characters who are by turns exasperating and entrancing, the ingenuity of its dialogues and its ability to surprise.
Transylvanie (2023). Rodrigue Huart. France
The jury also awarded the "Silver Méliès" for the Best European Fantasy Short to Transylvanie, as it is a well-rounded film which we see as a continuation of the finest traditions of European fantasy film-making.
