It is now 100 years since Kafka died, and we find ourselves plunged into a Kafkaesque model of the world, spreading even further on the wings of the digital transition and AI. Kafka is one of the great writers of the strange. His prophetic work and the concept of Kafkaesque have influenced the fantasy genre for decades.

This work follows the trail of the hallmark left by Kafka's influence on fantasy, horror and science-fiction cinema, covering not only independent and art-house film-makers, but also popular titles bringing Kafka's vision into the realm of pulp fiction and commercial cinema.

This book recounts the artistic work behind the acclaimed film Irati (2022), by director and scriptwriter Paul Urkijo Alijo. Irati is a tribute to Basque mythology and history, set in the 8th century, after the battle of Roncesvalles. The lead characters, Eneko and Irati, venture into a world full of fantastical beings.
