We needed this. On the schedule. We needed an adaptation of some novel, story or epigram written by Stephen King. Even if it was one of those books under the name of Richard Bachman. Well, here we have it, a freestyle, dystopian version by Francis Lawrence, also the director of a number of films in the Hunger Games series, as well as videos for Lady Gaga and Britney Spears. In the novel (a hundred teenagers take part in a brutal competition in which they must walk without rest: if they stop or slow down, they die) we read:
– Ray, there's still time to change your mind…
– No, there's no time now. The withdrawal deadline was yesterday.
– They'll understand. I know they will. The commander…
The film has been defined by British critics as one of the darkest mainstream releases of recent seasons.
