14 years ago a mycotic pandemic slaughtered 98% of animals. 12 years ago, the 2nd Civil War broke out in the United States, triggered by the global collapse of the food supply chain. A year later, famine spread around the whole planet. Now, the most prized asset, sought out and defended with tooth, claw, machete and machine gun, is the land formerly belonging to the freed slaves. That is what we are told by the opening crawl to this film which premièred in Toronto. What they don't tell us yet, though, is that while some are defending their land, man-eating militias are after meat. Human meat. But this is not a Canadian Cannibal Holocaust (1980), but rather a parable of our own pandemic, of Black Lives Matter, and the rights of first peoples. And also a study of the generational conflict between a mother and son.
