Sang-hyun, a charitable priest who regularly visits patients at his town's small hospital, is tormented by the doubts and despair caused by a world dominated by suffering and death. His desire to save lives leads him to Africa to participate in a project aimed at finding a vaccine against a deadly virus. There, he contracts a fatal illness from which he recovers almost miraculously. People, convinced of his healing powers, begin making pilgrimages to his home. However, one night, Sang-hyun suffers a relapse and dies. The next morning, he has become a vampire.
