In 2032, human beings, cyborgs and robots live altogether in a society where boundaries between men and machines cannot be perceived. Two agents from Section 9, a governmental unit specialised in anti-terrorist activities, are investigating a series of violent murders which were apparently committed by female robots created specifically to have sex. This intense search will lead one of the main characters towards more questions than answers and make him wonder about the very meaning of life and humanity. With profound ideology and high impact visuals, Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence, follow-up to one of the most important and influential works of Japanese animation cinema, was the first cartoon to compete for the Palme d’Or in Cannes.
