Kamikaze 1999 – El último combate

“It’s a world of the future. A world called Planet Earth. And he’s one man just trying to survive”. Opera prima from Luc Besson, shot at the young age of 23 and winner of accolades at some of the biggest fantastic filmfests of that year (Sitges, Avoriaz, Oporto, Brussels). In the bleak post-apocalyptic future, civilization has given way to a primitive, almost tribal social order. Humans, left speechless by the atmospheric consequences of “the accident”, struggle to survive as they search for food to keep them alive for at least another day. Shot in an elegant, austere black and white on a shoestring budget, this movie remains one of Besson’s best works.
