Alien, el octavo pasajero

One of the great contemporary horror classics turns 30 this year. 1979 saw the birth of one of the creatures, created by Swiss artist H.R. Giger, to have made the biggest impression on the history of cinema, the star of a saga still ongoing today as it parries a whole new breed of attackers. Space vehicle Nostromo is the setting against which this “eighth passenger” (played by Nigerian student Bolaji Badejo) mentioned in the Spanish title pits wits against its seven flight companions, particularly Lt. Ripley, against whom its counterparts will have to measure their guile several times in the subsequent decades. Claustrophobic, visually spectacular, terrifying and unforgettable, the movie by Sir Ridley Scott marked a before and after in the genre. You can never see it too often on the big screen.
