Green

Green

Walter is a solitary gardener in charge of looking after an (American) football field. It’s his passion, and he dedicates himself to it body and soul. Day by day, millimetre by millimetre he measures the growth of the blades of grass, he feeds it with care and attention, he caresses it with the mower… but the (American) football team must be allowed in to train and play. For them the field is just a means to an end: the game. For Walter, however, caring for the lawn is his purpose in life. There’s nothing else beyond that… The important things in life are different for each human being. Each person is an island with interests which might seem strange to other people. This is an elegant fable in the form of a short film directed by a German living in L. A., Boris Schaarschmidt, as a final year projects for the American Film Institute.
