Fred’s life takes an unexpected turn when he discovers that he is becoming inhuman. His mother tries to hide this from the world, but Fred longs for just one thing: the sea. This is a fantastic story about mutation, change, which roots itself in the imagery of genre and in the saltpetre of the sea. As its producer, Alain Fournier, says, any transformation finds difficulties along the way as “freedom always comes at a price”. This is the pain of rebirth, the search for personal realisation, the fight for a new life. It is not easy, as the change depends on how others look at it, which also changes during the process. It is the history of life. Elegant Quebecois short which won an award at FantAsia this year.
