  • Vertige

Filmed in a brutally vertiginous scope by the same director of photography as Mutants, Nicolas Massart, and directed by Abel Ferry, who you can see is fatuously seduced and drawn away by the abyss and infinite vacuum, Vertige (whose technical team also features another hero from David Morley’s film, the artistic director, Olivier Afonso), is always shown from the perspective of its main characters, amateur climbers faced with a huge mountain that, logically, plays its role of totally hostile backdrop to perfection. Although nothing, absolutely nothing, will improve when they reach flat ground. There’s a predator waiting for them plus the monster that we all harbour inside us. The final scene on a suspension bridge has been compared with what Spielberg wanted to shoot with Indiana in the temple of doom.
