Those are some pretty bad vibrations that the angry new youngsters of British cinema bring to us when they play at search and destroy! How things have changed since ¿Quien puede matar a un niño? Now the question’s asked the opposite way round: How many folk can a handful of kiddies kill? Two are probably enough. They fence them in, strip them of their security as happy adults on a day trip to the lake and play with them until they’re nothing but a blubbering heap of fear... They say that Eden Lake, directed by a beginner with plenty of stripes and starring a bunch of top-notch actors headed by the Fassbender of Hunger, is like a modern-day Lord of the Flies. It’s not a bad comparison. Although we would also mention Children of the Corn. Or El rey de la montaña. At the end of the day, who can trust a bunch of kids hell-bent on causing trouble?
