Major presentation in the Horizontes Latinos section of the San Sebastian Film Festival, Sleep Dealer is pure boundary cinema and tremendous science fiction as well as true Mexican film with gringo touches and Peruvian origins, the type of film that dies killing and also manages to survive. Its director (and also scriptwriter and editor) Alex Rivera comes from a mixture of races with roots in Peru and New Jersey. He says that the futuristic world where Sleep Dealer is set came to him when he was studying Political Sciences. Deep down and on the surface of this film, as dusty as it is technified, is a barbaric and real concept: a world connected by technology but divided by increasingly violent boundaries, which can only be crossed by human traffickers…
