This was one of the great sensations of the “other Cannes”, the one that never sees the great staircase in front of the Grand Auditorium Lumière. Shot with a frankly very small handful of dollars, the director (also a creature capable of making a cinematographic effect out of a broom) cut costs by shooting in Belize, Guatemala and Mexico. According to him, the good thing about this film is that it starts where other alien films usually finish. Nor is it a bad thing that there are no great armies that only get in the way, as this is an intimate and non apocalyptic adventure of a couple. Remember though that although new forms of life start to appear on the planet with the intention of staying, this is not District 9. Actually, its director defined it as Lost in Translation in a world of monsters. It sounds frankly terrifying...
